PDO mono threads are a non-surgical cosmetic treatment used to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture, firmness, and elasticity. They are part of the broader category of thread therapies, but unlike lifting threads, mono threads are designed for skin rejuvenation rather than lifting.
What Are PDO Mono Threads?
PDO (Polydioxanone) is a biocompatible, absorbable material that has been safely used in medical sutures for decades.
Mono threads are smooth, hair-thin threads (without barbs or hooks) that are inserted into the skin using fine needles.
They are primarily used to tighten and rejuvenate the skin by stimulating natural collagen and elastin production.
How Do They Work?
1. Insertion
The practitioner inserts multiple PDO mono threads into the skin in a mesh-like pattern. This creates a supportive “scaffold” under the skin.
2. Collagen Stimulation
As the body naturally breaks down the PDO threads over several months, it triggers a wound-healing response. This stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which are essential for skin firmness and hydration.
3. Gradual Rejuvenation
The threads dissolve within about 6–8 months.
The collagen framework they leave behind can last 12–18 months, providing longer-term skin improvement.
Benefits
- Improves skin texture and elasticity
- Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Provides a subtle tightening effect(not a dramatic lift)
- Enhances skin hydration and glow
- Can be used in areas such as the face, neck, décolletage, and even body regions like arms or abdomen

They are most suitable for people noticing early signs of skin laxity, fine lines, or loss of firmness. They are not designed to replace surgical facelifts but rather to provide a subtle, natural improvement in skin quality.
Most people experience minimal downtime. Mild swelling, redness, or bruising can occur and usually resolves within a few days. Most patients return to normal daily activities straight away.
This depends on your skin goals and the treatment area. Some people see improvements after one session, while others may benefit from a series of treatments spaced several months apart. Your practitioner will design a plan tailored to your needs.
